About Us

Hi, I’m Gale and Gale’s Pet Supplies was born out of my desire to ensure that today’s pets don’t suffer because of their human-parents loving them too much.

I see so many pets that are overweight or bored and unhappy and I want to help them. But I can hardly walk up to a total stranger and say “hey, you’re not looking after your cat/dog properly”. They’d biff me one! So, I decided to create a business that only offers quality products, and which also provides helpful tips on caring for the non-human members of the family.

I’ve always had pets. First a cat, the result of a doctor telling my mum, when I was about 3, that I was allergic to cats and the best thing she could do was to get one. Then we had a dog, which attracted visitors from all-over to watch him jump up and swing off the fronds of the palm tree in our front yard. Our decision to travel around Australia for 6 years didn’t stop us having pets. We acquired 2 cats and some goldfish along the way and when we did finally settle down, we added a horse, dogs, goats, sheep and cattle to the list.

My mum wasn’t really an animal fan but my father, who had wanted to be a veterinarian, loved them and if he had had his way, we would have added many more animals to the list. In fact, after we kids left home, they adopted a kangaroo, wallaby and magpie (all injured and all with permission of the relevant wildlife governing body).

But, back to me. I’ve always had cats. I love dogs too, especially the bigger breeds (since leaving home I've had two staffies and a kelpie), but I feel too many people get cute little puppies, let them climb all over them and then when they grow up, they are too big, and the poor dog misses out on something they grew up loving. Cats, on the other hand, never get too big. They can (and do) climb all over you no matter what their age!

In starting Gale’s Pet Supplies, I wanted to do something different from the other pet supply businesses. Yes, I needed to make a living, but I still wanted to do more. So, I’ve chosen products which meet with Australian guidelines.

That means the pet food we sell must be safe to eat, produced under sanitary conditions, and contain no harmful substances.  Production and labelling must comply with Australian Standard 5812.

Toys, bedding, kitty litter etc must be environmentally friendly and be made with products suitable for the animal they are intended for.

What else sets Gale’s Pet Supplies apart from other businesses in this industry? We donate a percentage of every sale to the welfare of animals. Each month we change the organisation we donate to - and you, the customer, have a say in where that money goes. With each order you place, you get to nominate a pet shelter or organisation which aids in the treatment of injured, abandoned or abused pets and wildlife. They don't have to be big or well known, they just have to have an ABN and be a legitimate non-profit caring for animals. That is the reason I get up every day and work in my business – to ensure your pet has access to great food, wonderful grooming and play products, and to help those non-profits who help our four legged and winged friends have a better life.
